I doubt if Sonia and the coterie around her including her well-wishers would have had thought of any strategic gains by her decision to refuse the post of Prime Ministership. Her decision to revoke are different as discussed in the previous postings, but unwittingly,unknowingly they have dealt some big time, body blows to quite a few parties.
1. She's managed to pull the rug, straight down under from BJP's feet (Note here, BJP's feet not Vajpayee's) by taking away the biggest issue of 'Foreign origin' away from them. They now do not have any card left to play, against the Gandhi family. She's managed to do away the most vitriolic issue against the Congress party.
2. Most of the allies of Congress after the initial elation have refused to join the Govt, which basically means we are with your right now, but don't know how long ..... All of these motley parties won't hesistate to take away the support in a jiffy and bring the government down. (All these bunch of jokers have their own self-preservation in their regions to worry about nor they can be managed easily. Sonia is no Vajpayee). They all now have been given a strong message. Gandhi family do not mind being away from the politics and away from the 'Gaddi'. That would mean no power for the allies. (Note - DMK just announced, that it's now ready to join the Govt.)
3. Sonia Gandhi has neither given up the Congress party presidency nor her children have announced getting out of Indian politics. They are very much there for future battles. They are just gearing for the longer race. (This also poohs poohs the accusation that Sonia and her children are worried about security. If so, they just wouldn't be there in the first place.).
The weepy, faltu, toadying, self-seeking Congressmen's behaviour ever since Sonia's bombshell clearly shows that there aren't any future leaders left in that party and they all, will not settle for anything less than a Gandhi to lead them. This reinforces that the future of Congress lies clearly with the Gandhi's. The Ambikas, Aiyars and the Azads can never win anything on their own. They know that, and they also know that their political fate is linked to the Gandhi's being at the helm.
Hang on for few years then see and experience the launch of Rahul or Priyanka into mainstream politics and see the nation (Rural India) going berserk. Congress will storm right back into Parliament without any support of any parties, without any jokers like Laloos,Surjeets and Mulayams.
Alas, BJP do not have any next-generation leaders worth his salt, to show to the world. After Vajpayee who - ?? Sushmas,Jaitleys and the Mahajans. Tsk Tsk Tsk !!!
