Day 7 - Pier 39 and San Francisco Downtown

Karthikeyan and I woke up kind of early, got ready and left his Mountain View home to visit the City of San Francisco. We went out in his car, parked his car in his office and took a local bus to Pier 39. Pier 39 is located on SF's waterfront where you can visit various aquariums, shop, dine, watch sea lions, take a ferry ride to Alcatraz or take a cruise to go under the Golden Gate bridge, get entertained by various kind of entertainers performing on the street.

I was told that it was SF's number one attraction, certainly true, looking at the crowd out there. We took tickets to take a Ferry Ride which goes under the Golden Gate bridge and around the Alcatraz. We bought some beers to quench our thirst, huge glasses of beer, which we realised that we can't carry it with us, while boarding the Fleet. We tried to drown it inside us, amidst nudges of 'Chug It Maan' by the people around us. The ferry ride took us on a scenic tour of San Francisco Bay, under the Golden gate Bridge, and then around Alcatraz. Karthikeyan managed to apply hell a lot of Sun Cream on his face. It was fun trying to click photographs. There was one particular Sea Gull which kept following the fleet. It was very windy and bit chilly. Good view of the Bridge, though ...

We completed that ride, hungrily tore into a Pizza, almost completed it, shopped a bit and then took a three hour guided tour of the city of San Francisco. The very well manned coach, was a complete pleasure trip. The driver who was also the guide, smoothly handled the lot, took us around to Fisherman's Wharf, Palace of Fine Arts, Presidio, Fort Point, Golden Gate, Pacific Heights, Financial District, touched Japan town and China town, Crooked Lombard Street from a distance and back to Pier 39. On the way he showed us Danielle Steele's Mansion on Pacific heights. The driver identified us as - Indians and wanted to know whether we knew Hindi Actors -Anupam Kher and Johnny Lever. We were told that they took a ride in that and he also took a snap of himself with them. The driver gave us a guided tour explaining History and tid-bits about the place we were visiting. One basically gets to see important locations of San Francisco and get to see San Francisco's Urbane beauty, all resplendent and engaging.

We came back home and played Scrabble with Valar and called an end to a fabulous day.
