The Maids

Saw this play. This is the first time I have ever seen a play in Theatre.

Director: Konarak Reddy
Playwright: Jean Genet
Duration: 1 hour 20 mins
Language: English
Cast & Credits: Nalini, Kirtana Kumar, Rhea Saran, Himanshu, Sonali, Anandi Chowriappa, Konarak Reddy, Chalam, Anjula, Tashi, Basil Carter.

Synopsis:
The play takes place one night, in a lush Paris boudoir. The perfect setting for depravity. The rules of power keep changing. Class is as oppressive as death. Sexual desire, game playing and the tenderness of deeply felt love oppose each other and are complementary to a sado-masochistic enactment of truth. The two sisters, Solange and Claire, who are maids in the home of a wealthy young woman, plot to kill their mistress. This allows them to transcend their own class and enter a class that they are not usually privy to.

About Women Artist’s Group:
Women Artists’ Group was initiated in 1993 as a non-structured platform and support for writers, performers, artists, and others interested in feminist literature, criticism and theory. It was registered as a non-profit trust with Pattabhi Rama Reddy & Kirtana Kumar as trustees. Major projects include theatre workshops, group reading and documentary film making besides actual performances.
