I have always been and unabashed fan and a vehement supporter of Saurav Ganguly as a Captain of the Indian Cricket team. I've had innumerable arguements and discussions with various friends on this issue and, I pride on the fact that I was very early in noting his captaincy skills and predicting his success even when not many thing's were going on in his favour.
Now I believe I am very early in predicting the decline in Ganguly's captaincy. I advocated change in Captaincy before the India Vs Australia series last year and I maintain that Saurav Ganguly's captaincy has not evolved, forget evolution it has declined and it is not going anywhere.
Although I continue to appreciate and marvel at Ganguly's past aggressiveness ( unknown attribute for most of the Indians) and postive approach to cricket and fierce will to win, but he's lost all that long back. He is clueless, unprepared and defensive these days. Imagination and Flexibility was never his forte and that's what is needed the most in the current context.
If Saurav Ganguly would be the Captain, which is likely, the Indians (selector, administrators, media et al;) are never known to be proactive, daring ,adventrous and dynamic.
Test Series would be a close affair and it could go either way. Pakistan will win the One Day series, hands down, no doubt on that.
If Rahul Dravid is made the Captain, whichis highly unlikely, he is the perfect candidate right now for that role.
India would outright win the Test Series. The One Dayers would be a close contest.
My instincts says that Saurav would lead the team, India will lose the Tests Series 2-1 and One Day Series 4-2 and this should finally close the chapter on Saurav's Captaincy.
Honestly, I am not really looking forward to this series.

India is definately going to win this series.. but its not going to be because of India's super captain or are so called "Best batting line-up in the world" but its because of the weak team that Pakistan is sending to India.. The Legendary Mushtaq Mohammad has described the current Pakistan cricket team as a "club squad".
Mushtaq was unsparing in his comments on the Pakistani batsmen saying "barring a couple of them, there are no quality batsmen in the side. They have faulty techniques, are too flashy, have no footwork, no temperament and consequently they are inconsistent," he said...
Also test cricket needs bowlers who can take 20 wickets at one go.. do u expect Danish Kaneria to do this?
I predict that India will definately win the series hands down.
But yes Ganguly has to go... i completely agree with you that Ganguly is one og the shrewdest captain our country has produced.. but oflate he seems to be losing it... For India to be truly the best side in the world... Ganguly has to go... Rahul dravid is to be made captain and Virender Shewag the vice captain who is as aggresive as Ganguly is.
