Show me a good loser, and I will show you a loser

John McEnroe famously remarked: "Show me a good loser, and I will show you a loser."

Indians down the years have been known as the nice guys of the world, when it comes to Sports. It's defined in our Psyche and our culture.

We do not worry about the end result, more interested in the process, as theoretical as it can get.

It is also so very difficult for people to accept aggressiveness in public. You have a Ganguly coming in once in a blue, and the majority of Indians are up against him, labelling him Arrogant, Princely, and a dear friend of mine, who would possibly read this article, usually has the word Obnoxious attached to Ganguly.

Ganguly is a bad loser and an honest one too, at that, that's why it's difficult for Indians to fathom him, accept him, cherish him and that's why he has a far better record as a Captain than the previous one.

Ganguly, I think has the unique ability to build an organisation. He is a classic CEO material. The team was built from scratch after Azhar's disastrous affairs with the bookies and has reached the No: 2 position.

He is truly a leader, too. We started the Aussies series in Australia last year, with a bang and that was due to Ganguly's innings in Brisbane, making the team mates believe that we could compete. He didn't do anything after that but then he set the tone for the series, I think he has led very well from the front in the last match against England in the Natwest series. When the team was in dumps, which our team certainly was, he is the one who stood up and scored that 90, which I hope and I actually believe that, is a perfect 'turn-around' innings. The fortunes of the team would surely change.

He also know what exactly he wants. Before the Australia series last year, he set the target of winning atleast one test in Australia, and we did exactly that. Not more, not less. He said before the Pakistan series, that we have played Australia very well and have raised our game, which should be enough to beat the Pakistanis and we did that.

Now he has possibly made the boldest statement of all. He has set the expectation from the team and has made very clear what the end-result should be. Considering the rampage the Aussies are unleashing right now and their desperation to win a series in India, this is certainly very very bold. He's said something like this - The next two months would decide whether I am a good captain or not and whether the team is good enough to be the top team. By far the boldest statement. It remains to be seen whether he is able to motivate the team to this end and whether the team has the ability to rise to the occassion. All the best, Ganguly. Go get the Aussies !!
