Fickle minded cynicism

A worried Saurav Ganguly
Saurav Ganguly has probably been the best Indian captain ever, with his off-field captaincy being far superior than his on-field captaincy. He never has really led very well from the front, by his batting or his other on-field activities. But that really didn't matter as long as the team was winning. The team is not winning and the mistakes he is making seem to stand out. These days he's making far too many mistakes, mostly selectorial, which might cost him more than he anticipates. His unneccesary backing of Yuvraj Singh over Aakash Chopra, and the incessant support of Parthiv Patel is possibly the biggest selectorial blunder that he's made so far. India is going to pay dearly for the blunders of Parthiv Patel.

In spite of all that, there's absolutely no doubt that India has achieved far more under him than any other captain and under him we have laid rest to the word associated with the Indian team often - Underachievers.

What is undoubtedly clear, that Saurav Ganguly is not liked at all in the cricketing establishment and by a vast majority of Indian cricket followers. He must be the most despised man in the Indian Cricket. Aussies hate him, no doubt so does lot of other teams, which shouldn't really concern us, but then, so does lot of Indians. People seem to have been waiting for things to go wrong with him or to latch onto him if he makes mistakes.

Our media is on the verge of becoming the next worst after the English Press.

The third test has just started and Ganguly was declared unfit, this morning and what has really surprised me is the rumours that the skipper has decided to stay out of the game to make clear his displeasure over the pitch preparation. Now this must be the most ridiculous rumour I have heard. Who on Earth would be so narrow minded to miss out on a game, just to prove a point, I am taken aback by the fickle minded cynicism of the people and the press that fuels such rumours.

I think time has come for Ganguly to step down, well not just for the sake of this rumour alone, various other events that needs to be taken into consideration. It's time for Ganguly to step down and then see how the team goes about it's work. That would show the difference.
